Black Friday is an informal name for the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States.
The phrase Black Friday originated in Philadelphia, where it was used by police to describe the heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.
Many stores offer highly promoted sales on Black Friday and of course many of us, designers, want to take advantage of those special deals and save some money 💵 during this holidays.
Black Friday in 2024 falls on Friday, November 29th. Sales typically begin on this day and extend over the weekend, concluding on Cyber Monday. This period is renowned for offering some of the best shopping deals of the year, with many retailers providing significant discounts on a wide range of products.
Following Black Friday, Cyber Monday occurs on the Monday after Thanksgiving (December 2nd). This term was coined by retailers to promote online shopping, offering an online counterpart to the in-store deals of Black Friday. Cyber Monday has evolved into a significant shopping event, allowing smaller online retailers to compete with larger chains by offering exclusive online deals.
